Laila Thaker is a Badulaig and Merriam Mir woman (Torres Strait Islander) based in Naarm/Melbourne. Since graduating from JCU Cairns in 2009 and The Actor’s Workshop Brisbane in 2013, Laila has been cast in various roles from Shakespeare to Sarah Kane. Most notably, ABC’s “The Queen and I”, Channel 9’s “House Husbands”, and LA feature film “San Andreas”. Her recent role in “Prayers To Broken Stone” won her “Best Emerging Indigenous Artist” for the Melbourne Fringe Awards last year. Currently writing, directing and producing under “Black Shell”, Laila is vigorous in her approach, growth and continues to advocate for First Nations and WOC in the Arts.
